Contact FAQ: WordPress install help

Updated October 2026

№ 01

GETTING STARTED

What details should I include so you can help me faster?

Share your domain, hosting provider, and what step you’re on (domain/DNS, SSL, installer, or manual upload). Include exact error text, screenshots if possible, and what you’ve already tried. If you can, paste your Site URL, WordPress Address URL, and the admin URL you’re using (e.g., /wp-admin).

№ 02

DOMAIN & DNS

My domain isn’t pointing to my host yet—what should I check?

Start with nameservers: confirm your domain is using the host’s nameservers (or that your A record points to the server IP). If you changed DNS recently, allow propagation time (often 1–24 hours). Also verify you’re editing DNS at the correct place (registrar vs. DNS provider) and that there aren’t conflicting A/AAAA records.

№ 03

INSTALLATION

Should I use a one-click installer or do a manual install?

One-click installers are usually best for beginners because they handle database creation, file placement, and permissions automatically. Manual installation is useful when your host doesn’t offer an installer, you want full control, or you’re troubleshooting a failed automated setup. If you tell us your host and plan, we can recommend the simplest method.

№ 04

ERRORS

I’m seeing “Error establishing a database connection.” What now?

This almost always means WordPress can’t reach the database with the credentials in wp-config.php. Confirm the database name, username, password, and DB host value (common: localhost, but some hosts use a custom hostname). Also check that the database user has permissions. If you share the error screen and your host, we’ll point you to the exact setting.

№ 05

LOGIN & SECURITY

I can’t log in to /wp-admin—how do I regain access?

First, try the password reset link on the login page and confirm you’re using the correct username/email. If you’re stuck in a redirect loop, clear browser cache and disable any caching/security plugin via your host’s file manager (rename the plugin folder). If needed, your host can reset the admin password in the database; tell us your host and we’ll outline the safest path.

POST-INSTALL

What are the first things I should do right after WordPress installs?

Log in, then set your Site Title/Tagline and confirm your Site Address uses https. Next, set Permalinks to “Post name,” delete default content, and create a new admin user (then remove the default one if it’s weak). Finally, run updates (WordPress, theme, plugins) and set up backups before adding lots of content.
